About Us

For more than twelve years students have come to yoga at Innerlightfor many different reasons. Some come for stress release or to help lift the weight of depression or to heal an injury. Some come to yoga because they’ve heard it will help them sleep better or lose weight or enjoy life more. Some come to learn to breathe better, for relief of anxiety, for relief of asthma. Athletes come to find a balance in their workout, more flexibility for muscles already strong. Some come full of resistance and skepticism and only because friend or family or colleague (as was my case nearly 25 years ago) insisted. Some come for spiritual purposes, a desire for the quiet, inner peace that yoga brings. Some come for the mind, some for the body, some for the spirit.

Usually the students who keep coming back are the ones who discover that yoga gives them more than what they came for in the first place. No matter why we are drawn to practice yoga we end up remembering more of who we are, more of what the Buddhists call our basic open hearted goodness. We find our suffering, our dukha diminished and our easeful nature, our sukha, more abundant, more accessible. Maybe that is really why we stay.

A decade after opening our doors we continue to have fun, to be humbled, to learn and to be enlivened through being in yoga together. To find, as Kabir says, “a solid place for our feet.” We remember again and again, “Sthira Sukham Asanam,” a steady, joyful connection to our body and to the earth.
