Progressive Teaching Training with Betsey Downing

Progressive Teaching Training with Betsey Downing
Friday, October 22- Sunday, October 24, 2010

The art of progressive teaching is one of the most empowering skills you can cultivate as a yoga teacher. To understand how to break poses down into their component parts, and teach the skills necessary to master those parts systematically over time can take you and your students to places you previously thought impossible! This workshop will focus on how to establish a solid foundation of progressive teaching skills to challenge your students safely and appropriately.

In this workshop you will learn to:
- analyze poses systematically
- develop logical lessons plans toward specific pinnacle poses
- empower your experienced students with progressive teaching
- develop a theme and tie it into your teaching

Progressive teaching is a hallmark of Betsey's teaching style. With over 30 years of experience in yoga, she has taught thousands of students and teachers in the techniques of progressive teaching. Each day will begin with a structured progressive practice focused on a specific category of poses (standing poses, twists, forward bends, back bends, and inversions) moving to a pinnacle pose. The afternoons will be devoted to analysis of various progressions toward pinnacle poses with structured exercises to take into your teaching. Participants will develop a progressive series of poses in the various categories to take back to their students.

Anusara Yoga, Flowing with Grace, is a sophisticated, elegant, heart-oriented system of yoga based on sound biomechanics and life-celebrating Tantric philosophy. It weaves together all aspects of yoga into a unified whole that celebrates the heart and honors the body. Developed by John Friend, Anusara Yoga emphasizes Universal Principles of Alignment to ensure safety in the poses and to create balance in the body and mind.

"Betsey is a brilliant teacher, uplifting in her presence and instruction, and soulful-teaching from a deep well of wisdom and practical knowledge. Studying with her is a joyful experience of awakening you to your own inner power and sacredness of life." - Quote from a student
