Awakening In This Lifetime?

Another Look at Patanjali's Sutras

As students and teachers of yoga, we all owe a great debt of gratitude to a linguist named Patanjali who, around 300 BCE, put into written form the earliest teachings about yoga. Until then, these foundations of yoga philosophy had been passed on only by oral tradition. Patanjali condensed this wisdom into Sutras, or "threads" that weave the tapestry of yoga. Their form is so succinct, that they sometimes are puzzling and seem irrelevant to many of us. In this class we unravel some of those threads to see what they have to say to us today.

Jane Maguire, a student and teacher of Patanjali's Sutras for more than 30 years, is eager to share with you a fresh perspective on what Patanjali wrote. Using new commentaries on the Sutras and reflections of modern Advaitan and Buddhist teachers, she will show how Patanjali clearly describes enlightenment as natural state and therefore, accessible to us all.

You are invited to travel to new depths in studying this original treatise on Yoga. The class will give an overview of Patanjali's teachings and use guided meditations to illustrate them. It will be presented in two sessions to allow you to absorb and generate questions.
